Filiz Yazıcıoğlu is a postdoctoral researcher specializing in the Late Ottoman Empire, in which she also holds a PhD. Her research interests include nationalism, imperialism, and the Balkans. In 2015 she was awarded a doctoral scholarship under the aegis of the Turkish Historical Association’s ‘Nation States and Minorities in the Balkans’ programme. With extensive experience in Ottoman archival research, Filiz has contributed to various research projects since 2015, including the ERC project “Securing Europe, Fighting its Enemies: The Making of a Security Culture in Europe and Beyond, 1815-1914” (2018). She worked as a Research Associate at Utrecht University, working on NWO project “The Great Game of Pandemics”. Following her work on the project with archival sources, Filiz is now focusing on the legal aspects of the Istanbul Sanitary Council. She is one of the conveners of The Lausanne Project and a member of the Security History Network (SHN).
