Evren Çakil

Evren Çakıl is a PhD Candidate at Utrecht University. His research focuses on the Sanitary Council in İstanbul that operated between 1839-1923. He is a social historian and his main interest include Tanzimat reforms and the state and society relationship after the second half of the nineteenth century.

He was graduated from Boğaziçi University in 2021. His MA thesis examined the Kurdish and Armenian relationship between 1865-1890 in the Muş region, the eastern part of the Ottoman Empire. He translated Arminius Vambery’s book into the Turkish in 2024 titled as “Macaristan’ın Hikâyesi: Başlangıçtan On Dokuzuncu Asrın Ortalarına”. Since December 2024, he is a project member in the ERC Cooperation project led by Prof. Ozan Ozavci.
